“I CURRENTLY PRODUCE COLLAGES WITH THE USE OF ORIGINAL FOUND IMAGERY AND TEXTURES. MY WORK IS COMPLETED WITH TRADITIONAL METHODS AND IS A RESULT OF MY THOUGHTS ON THE WORLD WITH A FOCUS ON THE RISE OF THE DIGITAL AGE VS THE SERENE TIMES OF OLD.” - Amy Ellis
I was fortunate enough to be in the same class at University with this absolute talent, who has settled her roots in London, her work is extremely aesthetically pleasing, and even if you don’t have a clue what it’s about, or just don’t care you can still appreciate it with your eyes, which is the best Art out there at the moment.
I think the current age of Art is physically at pre-school level and mentally advanced, Does anyone else feel drained after entering a contemporary art exhibition? I mean if you don’t read that initial caption before you look around you wouldn’t even know you were in a Gallery! Whatever happened to the skilled artists who made their work themselves and didn’t need paragraphs and pages to explain it, because it was simply and desirably an Art. I did sadly once believe that explanations were Art, I was being spoon-fed gone off cheese (being told it was a delicacy, when in fact you could make it yourself by leaving it past the sell by date) I was also extremely gullible, but that’s what you have to be, to believe you have walked into something truly skillful and artistic when you enter a room with a bed in it, or a toilet (not naming names).
Amy Ellis, is an artist who I believe sits on the verge between the old and the new age of Art, which in a way harks at what the work is about, it was produced as a representation of something else, an idea, with meaning. But it’s a skill to see an image and be able to couple it with others to create one, especially ones that make sense and look as nifty as they do, I certainly couldn’t do it, could you?
